What is a Certificate Of Insurance?

So a Prospect or client has requested a Certificate of Insurance, or also know as a “COI” and you don’t know what to do. A Certificate Of Insurance is a commonly used ACCORD form in the insurance industry. It is a summary of coverages on your insurance policy, often times requested by the other party. It commonly shows General Liability, Automotive, Umbrella and Workers Comp Coverage. Other coverages can me added to the form if requested (ie Cargo, Pollution Ect). Certificates of insurance can be obtained from your insurance agent or the insurance company. There should be no cost for issuing a COI, but if additional insurance coverage is requested, that could cause an increase in premium.
